Background
Have you ever wondered why most women wear makeup every day? The reason stems from a dispute that happened generations and generations ago. Many millennia in the past when the gods more frequently interacted with humans, the Greek god of sleep Hypnos was busy courting Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of beauty. They dated for a few months and Hypnos fell absolutely head over heels for her, so much so that he wanted to marry her. What Hypnos didn’t know, however, was that Aphrodite did not feel the same way. In fact, she was cheating on him with multiple partners, including a mortal woman and Hephaestus, the god of artisans.
Part 1
Hypnos's Rage
When Hypnos found out about Aphrodite’s serial cheating, he was livid. Yet, he tried his best to maintain his calm and intended to work things out with Aphrodite. But it was too late! Aphrodite had married Hephaestus behind Hypnos’s back, sending Hypnos into a fit of rage. He was intent to inflict harm on Aphrodite and Hephaestus but quickly realized he was not strong enough to do so. Thus, he went after something else that Aphrodite loved: mortal women and their beauty.
